Just to clear up any confusion on my understanding of Christ "spiritually" dying, I agree with Berkhof's explanation which can be found <a href="http://www.google.com/books?id=jFqJaODKwIoC&printsec=frontcover&dq=Louis+Berkhof#PRA1-PA336,M1" rel="nofollow">here</a> on pages 336-340.

My questions is this: If Christ was holy, completely fulfilling the law, how could he have died?

Hi, I have a comment on something you said which I find disturbing and don't see any proof of in Scripture.

You said: "The holy and sinless Christ suffered on the cross, dying both physically and spiritually despite having done no wrong"

I don't see anywhere where the Bible says Christ "died spiritually," because only the damned and alienated from God are dead spiritually (that's the definition of spiritual death after all).

I'm having a debate on this very issue:

p.s. you should enable the option on your blog to "email me of follow up comments," so visitors can select it and have new comments emailed to them. Without this option, people can forget about what blog they commented at and they wont know if others ahve contributed.
